Yanks Starting 5…Ridiculous

  • I don’t know why this just set in, but hs anybody seen the Yankees starting 5 this year?

    1. Sabathia
    2. Burnett
    3. Wang
    4. Chamberlain
    5. Pettite

All 5 of these guys either are aces, were aces, or have the ability to one day be considered one. After the Yanks bullpen showed that it could hold up as well (Last season), I fear that the AL East might very well be in store for some stingy Yankee pitching.

As a lifetime Mets fan, I have never been a Yankee hater or anything, but I would have legititate fears if the Mets were paying them in the 2009 Wold Series (Ya Never Know :-) ) with a rotation like this one.

I want to open the floor to the other Authors and visitors to chime in and tell us if there is any better rotation in baseball…

    Let’s hear It!

  1. I have not figured out why the Yankees are so gung ho about making Joba a starter. Andy why is Sabathia the #1 starter? Yes, he won the Cy Young in 2007, but have they not seen his ability or no ability to pitch under pressure? Did they forget about the playoffs in 2007 or the beginning to the 08 season with the Indians. Once CC went to the Brewers, he was one of the best pitchers in the NL, but that was because the pressure was off of him. He is a great pitcher, but Yankees fans should be prepared for a rollercoaster ride with him. Being a diehard Indians fan, I had the oppurtunity to be on that rollercoaster for the years he pitched in Cleveland.

I don’t think there is a better rotation. I mean the Angels, with a healthy Kelvim Escobar could be up there. All of Lackey, Santana, Saunders, Weaver, and Escobar have the ability to win 15 games a piece. But the Yankees rotation is pretty good. I’m projecting about 18 wins for CC, 16 for AJ, 15 for Wang and Joba, and 13 for Pettitte.

I have to agree with Missjen1127, I would rather have Hughes and someone else compete for the #5 starter and put Joba back in the pen. Sooner or later Mariano will retire and Joba could step right in as closer. In the meantime Joba could handle 7th and 8th inning situations and leave Mariano with three out situations only. Besides, from what I’ve heard they are going to continue coddling Joba , no more than 5 or 6 inngs. Either he’s a starter and goes 7,8 innings or he’s not. If not, he belongs in the pen

Regarding rotation as a whole, the only thing that could derail it would be injury prone Burnett.
