Visitor Email Question # 3 – Will the Phillies Repeat?

  • Hello All,

I have been answering emails al ot lately, I have to tell you we have some passionate visitors!

This question came up 3 times, so I’ll post it here.

Will the Phillies Repeat in 2009? In your opinion of course…

Well I love answering reader questions! So let’s go!

As a Mets fan, my answer is NO! Ok, Ok just kidding. Let’s have a fair talk here.

    Repeat? Not in my opinion!

    Repeat? Not in my opinion!

The Phillies were definately a surprise in 2008, they had the fight and the edge that brought them through all the way to the end of a very long and tough season. The Mets faltered as usual, and
there you had it, the Phillies were the champs. They phought the tough phight and won (Phillies plug haha).

This season will be very different though. Even as a Mets fan, I feel the champ will come out of the AL this year. I do not feel the Phillies will win the East again, but may sneak is as the wild card.
The talent it still there, and the heart as well, but I simply dont see a repeat coming.

Again, I would go into more details, but I want to leave the floor open to you, the reader, and you the wonderful authors here at MajorLeagueBlogging.com.

    So…Let’s hear it!

    You're a MLB Pro..Thanks For Coming Back!

I think they definitely have a shot, but I wouldn’t put them as a top 3 right now. I think the Mets, Red Sox and Yankees are all stronger.

There is always a chance. to win it though the team needs to be injury free and everything to work out. It just dosen’t happen 2 years in a row. I think they can make the playoffs though.

No. There’s 29 teams gunning for them, and teams all around them are getting better. But when you’re at the top, unfortunately there’s nowhere to go except down. Sure, they have a solid team. But the NL East is tough and it will be a fight to the end.

Probably not. They need another stud in the rotation besides Hamels. Myers is getting old and at some point Moyer’s 60-year old body will give out. No doubt they are still stacked offensively (hopefully Werth gets a shot to bust out this year), but that may not be enough for them to repeat.

This is ridiculous. Are you kidding? There is no chance EVER that they will repeat… Moyer? HAHAHAHAH

I don’t think they can. Brad Lidge won’t have the same season. Chase Utley coming off a hip injury. But, Raul Ibanez should have a monster season at Citizens Bank. But, they just don’t have the players need. I know most are returning, but they played Milwaukee, then Los Angeles. I don’t think they’ll have a chance. I don’t even know if they’ll make the playoffs.

    I’m thinking these teams.

    AL East – Yankees

    AL Central – Twins/Indians

    AL West – Angels

AL Wild Card – Red Sox

    NL East – Mets

    NL Central – Cubs

    NL West – Dodgers

    NL Wild Card – Giants/Phillies/Cardinals
