    Welcome to My World
“There are more important things in life other than baseball, I just haven’t figured out what they are yet”. When I saw the oppurtunity to write about the Cleveland Indians, I knew that I could not pass this up. It’s not every day I find the oppurtunity to do 2 things that I love, talking about the Indians and blogging. My name is Jen and welcome to my world. I was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and grew up on Indians baseball. Hopefully you’ll enjoy reading about the Indians as much as I love talking about them. And I do promise you this, I will not comment on how “hot” Grady Sizemore is or how good Victor Martinez looks in his baseball pants. I might be a girl, but trust me, I can talk baseball.

Indians at .500 in Cactus Leauge
With the first week of Spring Traning games almost over, the Indians have hit .500 by beating the Colorado Rockies today 6-4. Trevor Crowe and Jhonny Peralta both went 2-3 with 2 hits and 2 runs scored. The win goes to Zach Jackson who threw 2 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 run with one strike out.  Jack Cassel picked up the save.

Sizemore out of line-up again on Sunday
CF Grady Sizemore was out of the line-up again on Sunday due to a groin injury. Sizemore has not played since Thursday. On Friday, it was announced that Sizemore would not be playing in the World Baseball Classic due to this groin injury and Shane Victorino will be taking his spot on the roster. In an interview with Eric Wedge, Sportstime Ohio announcers Matt Underwood and Rick Manning asked Wedge about Sizemore’s injury. Wedge stated they are not concered with Sizemore not being ready for Opening Day. By not playing in the WBC, it will allow him to get the proper rest he will need to be back to full strengh come opening day.

Closer Wood Throws 2nd Bullpen Session
New Indians closer Kerry Wood, threw for the second day in a bullpen session. Wood threw 40 pitches and says he feels no soreness in his back, which sidelined him for the first few games of Spring Training.

  • Bonser Out for season.
    By TwinsTerritory on February 25, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

The twins RP Boof Bonser is out for the season with a torn rotor cuff and Right Labrum. He is likely to be out for the whole 2009 season, after doctors found the tears this Wednesday. Bonser began experiencing pain late last season. When Bonser attempted to throw again in January he still felt discomfort. The MRI’s continued to be negative. The latest MRI showed he did have structural damaged, and went into surgery immediately.

Twins Bullpen: With Bonser out of the Pen The young phillip humber is the favorite to win the final spot in the pen. The twins deal with the Diamondbacks for Juan Cruz is seeming more likely as the Twins continue to take blows to the bullpen.
    Thanks

  • Marlins Still Get “No Respect”
    By FishHead on February 17, 2009 | 2 Comments2 Comments Comments

Dan and HanleyFirst off I’d like thank Jeff for this opportunity to put my garbled rants down for everyone to read.

I am a long time Marlins fan (yes, we do exist) and South Florida native. I was recently laid off my job after six years. Which sucks. So I’ll be attending as many Marlins spring training games in Jupiter as time (no problem) and money (slight problem) allow. I hope to get some good pics and insight to share with you.

I love this team but let me tell you, with the lack of fan support and the ongoing ballpark debacle (which I suppose I’ll have to get into sooner or later), well let’s just say it’s not Red Sox Nation. Unless the Red Sox are in town.

Even the highly regarded Baseball Prospectus has us finishing in last place. A full seven games behind the Nationals!

    Huh?

For a team that finished 84-79 last season this is a travashamockery.

For starters, unlike last season the Fish start the year with a healthy starting rotation. Ricky Nolasco (15-8 3.52 ERA), who started last year in the bullpen and Josh Johnson (7-1 3.61 ERA), who came back from Tommy John surgery, are back and slated to be  the #1 and #2 starters. Unlike last season when we started with Mark Hendrickson (7-8 5.45 ERA) and Rick VandenHurk (1-1 7.71 ERA). Blegh!

The core players, led by All Stars Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla, are back and headed for there fourth year playing together. This team should be considered established major leaguers, not “prospects” or “up and comers”.

They still have to prove it on the field for a full season. But let me tell ya, after knocking the Mets out of the playoffs two years in a row, the Marlins still get no respect, no respect at all.
