Pujols has grand day as Cards slam Astros, 11-2

  • Albert Pujols had a great day. He hit a grand slam in the 5th inning and another home run (a three run shot) in the 7th, having 7 RBIs on the day. Roy Oswalt and the Astros, on the other hand, had a day to forget. Oswalt pitched 6 innings, giving up 9 hits, 6 runs, two walks and struck out four. The big piece to Roy’s bad day was of course, Pujols’ slam. Wesley Wright didn’t fare much better, giving up 7 hits, four runs, and a home run. The home run was also given up to the Cards’ # 5.

The Cardinals pitching couldn’t have been much better. Adam Wainwright pitched 5 scoreless innings, allowing four hits, walking three and striking out four. Jason Motte pitched an inning in relief and struck out two. Lefty Dennys Reyes pitched a scoreless 7th and struck out one. Brad Thompson was the lone pitcher to give up runs, two in the 9th.

St. Louis is now 4-2, while the Astros are a lousy 1-5.
