Kalas, Fidrych pass away
-
Today is a very sad day for baseball. Harry Kalas, the legendary Phillies broadcaster who also did voiceovers for NFL Films, died in the booth before today’s Phillies-Nationals game in Washington. He was 73. Kalas’ trademark “It’s outta here” and baritone voice were a part of the Philadelphia organization for more than 35 years.
Mark “The Bird” Fidrych, who was best remembered for his breakout 1976 season, died today at his farm from an apparent accident. The Bird was the AL Rookie of the Year in ‘76, going 19-9 with a 2.76 ERA. Fidrych was found by a family friend, and it appeared he was working on his truck when he passed. Fidrych was 54.
