  • Let’s Play GM (Mets); Crazy Trade Scenario(s)
    By DSchwartz on June 2, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Well I think it’s time to shake up the Mets, no? I don’t think Ryan Church, Alex Cora, and even Jose Reyes coming back will throw the Mets into a winning mindset. So let’s play GM and see what we can do with the Mets farm system and available players (not named Wright, Santana, K-rod, Maine, or Pelfrey). I have two proposals to be performed in succession:

    Mets Receive:

    Indians Receive:

    victor martinez/c

    fernando martinez/of

    mark derosa/if-of

    jon niese/sp

    cliff lee/sp

    brad holt/sp

    joe kunz/rp

    jefry marte/3b

    francisco pena/c

    Mets Receive:

    Red Sox Receive:

    clay buchholz/sp

    jose reyes/ss or victor martinez/c

    michael bowden/sp

    oliver perez/sp & $

    takashi saito/rp

    jj putz/rp

    nick green/ss

    jed lowrie/ss

Yielding the following Lineup & Rotation:

    Lineup

    Rotation

    Luis Castillo/2b

    Johan Santana

    Mark Derosa/ss

    Cliff Lee

    Victor Martinez/c

    John Maine

    Carlos Beltran/cf

    Mike Pelfrey

    David Wright/3b

    Clay Buchholz

    Carlos Delgado/1b

    Michael Bowden

    Gary Sheffield/rf

    Livan Hernandez

    Daniel Murphy/lf

The Indians need to realize there’s no way to compete this year and get what they can for Cliff Lee if they don’t plan on extending him. Mark Derosa isn’t worth keeping for them, and a healthy Victor Martinez can help them acquire a sundry of talent.

We all know how much the Red Sox want a stellar short stop and catcher. The Mets would now have Victor Martinez or Jose Reyes to provide them so long as they provide the Mets with both Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden. We can still give them a SS prospect (Reese Havens/Wilmer Flores/Ruben Tejada) if they choose Victor Martinez over Jose Reyes and I think that would be a no brainer for them. I think Derosa at SS with Victor at C is a little better for the Mets than Reyes at SS and Omir Santos and or Brian Schneider at C, but if the Red Sox would rather Victor Martinez at C over Jose Reyes at SS then I guess it’s moot. I know I’m in fantasy GM land, but why not?

I would first like to say thank you to Jeff for giving me the opportunity to post here on MajorLeagueBlogging.com. I’m excited to be a part of the MLB family. With that said it is time to get to business!

I’m going to keep this post brief because want to set up my weekly fantasy add/drop session on Tuesdays and my major league round up on Fridays. But these are just a few of the ideas I have. There will be plenty to follow trust me.

When anyone offers you a trade in Fantasy Baseball what do you think about? Do you think about every stat involved with making that trade? Do you get emotional because your mancrush is involved in the trade talks? Or do you evaluate the trade on who’s getting the best player?

There are a lot of different takes on this. I can tell you though never, I mean never trade on emotion. The best man in my wedding decided it was a good idea on draft day of a keeper league to offer up Hanley Ramirez. I know the first thing I thought too was is this guy nuts? But it gets much worse. He took a trade that only netted him Jason Bay, Jon Lester, and Carlos Marmol. I tried to counter this insane offer with David Wright and any pitcher on my roster (I had hamels, billingsley, Zambrano, and Broxton drafted at this point – oh and I had A-Rod on the bench so no worries there). He turned me down, why? Because he “Really wanted Lester.” His team is also in last place at this point.

I’m not bitter anymore, but this is definitely the way to set your team back in a keeper league. The best advice I can say about trades is something a wise man once told me, “Whoever gets the best player in the trade, usually gets the best deal.”

I love it when this happens. A friend of mine texted me an offer he received.

He would receive: Chipper Jones/3b & Daniel Murphy/of

    for: Josh Hamilton/of & Melvin Mora/3b

On ESPN, preseason, Josh Hamilton was ranked 18th, and he was #10 on Mock Draft Central’s ADP (average draft position, which I thoroughly enjoy attending to). Chipper Jones was ranked 49th on ESPN, and had a ADP of 49 as well – pretty consistent. As per my own (new) rankings (http://www.majorleagueblogging.com/major-league-baseball/new-fb-rankings/), I have Chipper currently at #74 because of injury concerns and Josh Hamilton at #14.

Daniel Murphy vs. Melvin Mora is an argument as well. I like Daniel Murphy a lot this year batting 2nd for the Mets, but Melvin Mora at 3b will still but up decent rbi numbers with a batting avg that won’t hurt. I don’t think people realize he went 77r-23hr-104rbi-3b-.285avg last year. Melvin Mora also has Brian Roberts, Adam Jones, Nick Markakis batting in front of him, which is very nice, when he gets back from the DL early-mid May.

Up to this point, Chipper has gone: 8r-1hr-4rbi-0sb-.316avg. I’ve already seen Chipper Jones miss 5 games since April 15th (9 days ago).

Josh Hamilton has gone: 7r-2hr-10rbi-2sb-.246avg. Even if Hamilton misses a few games, and isn’t as good as last year, he should still go 90r-29hr-110rbi-9sb-.295/.300avg, while Chipper performs to about 85r-22hr-85rbi-3sb-.325/.333avg. I’ll take 5-10 more Runs; 7-10 more Homeruns; 20-25 more RBI’s; and 5 more Stolen Bases from Josh Hamilton, plus I’d rather have Melvin Mora than Daniel Murphy, once he’s back from the DL.

Now I’m not sure what 3b/Corner Infielder there are on waivers for my friend, but chances are i’ll pick up someone while Mora is out.

Feel free to use this post as a trade thread. I’d love to answer your questions/give you suggestions for or against your trade offers out there. Give me some background though – who’s on waivers/what your team needs are – keeper league, etc.

  • Gosh Bless Baseball – Jesus;Jesus;Pagan;Church
    By DSchwartz on April 16, 2009 | 2 Comments2 Comments Comments

My wonderful wife showed me this story this morning: Yahoo News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090415/lf_nm_life/us_usa_civilrights_baseball;_ylt=Aqd_qRmbM1UvuqQJA8qu4y4LMxIF) reported that a man was ejected from Yankee stadium during the August 26th (Yankees vs. Red Sox) game’s God Bless America song. He attempted to go to the bathroom, but stadium police did not allow this. The police did say that he was being unruly, smelled of alcohol, and they ejected him so others wouldn’t have to be subject to his behavior, however, as per Yahoo, an officer also said “if the [ejected fan] didn’t like this country, he should get out of ‘it’”. If true, this statment alone makes this story horrendous and absolutely despicable, and I don’t think I’ve ever actually written the word despicable down to explain anything.

I hope nothing like this ever happens again. It is unconstitutional – in state, in basketball, in school, and in baseball.

On a related (religious) and very funny note: I think it was last year on April 16th, a 14 or 15 inning game against the Washington Nationals- I’ve never seen so much religion in one AT-BAT. Jesus Colome of the Washington Nationals was pithing to Jesus Flores. Angel Pagan of the New York Mets was on 2nd base. Ryan Church was up at bat. Who won the game? It was a walk-off Base on Balls by none other than SHAWN GREEN – just kidding – it was Brian Schneider…Sounds Jewish though. haha.
