Cards survive Cubs, 4-3
-
Adam Wainwright pitched 6 innings of shutout ball last night, and as the 6th ended, I wondered if he would come back out for the 7th. In a way, I was hoping so, but honestly I was hoping that he would be done. Too bad he wasn’t.
The Cubs scored 3 in the 7th, tying the game. I was honestly kinda worried that the Cards offense was done and the Cubs would win because the bullpen wouldn’t hold. Thankfully, I was wrong. Kyle McClellan pitched a solid 8th. Albert Pujols got on base with a one-out single, and stole 2nd as Ryan Ludwick was batting. Ludwick proceeded to knock in Pujols with a single. (On a side note, I had predicted this to happen. I predicted Ankiel to strike out – he flew out – Pujols to double and Lud to knock in the game-winning RBI. I was partially right.)
Ryan Franklin got his 5th save of the season, allowing one walk and striking out two.
The Cards are on FOX today at 4:10 Eastern, playing the 2nd of three games against the Cubs. Sean Marshall will be facing Mitchell Boggs. (Unfortunately, the area where I live will be seeing Yankees-Red Sox, so I can’t watch the game on MLB.TV or regular TV.)
You're a MLB Pro..Thanks For Coming Back!
