  • Yankees vs. Phillies Game 6 – The Time Is Now…
    By Jeffrey Gross on November 4, 2009 | 2 Comments2 Comments Comments

Wow, it has been a long time since I have been able to post here! I just got married, and boy were times crazy…but a good type of crazy!

Anyway, when we last left off, the Mets had a chance, the Mets had hope, the Mets were looking half decent…but here we are now…and as the whole world knows, the Mets completely fell apart. We can’t put the full blame on the players who led us to the record we finished with, but it was more of a combination…When you combine injuries and an overall lack of “Cohesiveness” led them to this end.

Well enough about the Mets..how about those Yankees! That’s right the Met’s blogger is 100% for the Yankees. Unlike a lot of Mets fans I am not at all a Yankee hater. I only dislike the Yankees when they beat the Mets, OR lose to the Phillies! Speaking of the Phillies…tonight is the night…tonight is the night to end their little run and bring the glory back to New York.

The Yankees absolutely must win this game tonight. Pettite has to step up big and the bullpen needs to be ready…ready to face a motivated and very dangerous Phillies lineup. A-Rod and Damon, in my opinion, will carry them through tonight. I also believe Jeter will have a HUGE game.

So from this Met’s fan…I want to let the whole world hear this…. “LET’S GO YANKEES”

Any friggin’ Mets fan out there that is rooting for the Phillies in this series need to check themselves..take off the Red and White you would never ever wear during any regular season (or post season for that matter) and slip into some pinstripes for tonights incredible game!

    You're a MLB Pro..Thanks For Coming Back!

  • A Citi Field Experience…(Great Game, Great Company)
    By Jeffrey Gross on May 9, 2009 | 3 Comments3 Comments Comments

Well, it’s a day or so late, but I want to share with all of the sites loyal visitors this Mets Authors’ first Citi Field experience…

Going to a game is great, but going to a game with great people is an even more incredible experience…I had the pleasure of attending my first game at Citi Field thanks to an incredible mid-day invitation from a colleague (to be shown later), and two of his (now mine as well) friends. What was even more incredible…we sat 1’st base side…row 6! Not bad for the first Citi field experience eh?

So after a quick train/subway ride, a sandwich, and a few beers the majestic exterior or Citi Field came into focus..I was floored by the appearance of the stadium, I absolutely loved it. It has an incredible likeness to the historic Ebbets Field and it totally, 10000% blew away Shea…Let’s face it…Shea was not much of a looker thats for sure…

Shortly after I snapped this photo….

So enough about the exterior…when entering Citi Field, one can’t help but to look all around at the incredible tribute to the great Jackie Robinson # 42… the Rotunda is really a wonderful site to see. I was really impressed with the quotes, images, videos, and the overall ambiance of the Citi Field entrance. Take a look…

So we took a look at our tickets…and we see this enticing caption “Admit One To Acela Club” … so we figured…well we absolutely have to check out this prestigious, top notch, exclusive lounge/club…more on this later… So we head up the stairs, and track down the sign that tells us where to go….

    To The Acela!

    To The Acela!

Before we get to the Acela club…we pass through 3-4 ticket security checks to make sure we weren’t freeloading…they certainly tightened up their security..(At least near the Acela/Caesars areas..) – Was a bit lacking in the 100’s seating section though :-)

Anyways, we pass through the Caesars Palace Club thing…

So we marched onward towards the esteemed Acela club, passing through Caesars without hesitation…And we arrive after another solid security point…So worth it…

So we arrive at the Acela club, and we promptly determined that it sucked ass, and left…Yeah it wasn’t all that great…$40 hamburger meals..and a decent view…We’ll pass…Elliot gives his review below…

Oh yeah, I almost forgot…as an extra measure of security Citi Field has decided to ID evvvvveryone when buying some beers…and I do mean everyone…really I do…  I was on line waiting for a beer, and a couple behind me (Must have been about 70….)  were asked for ID…it was a great dialogue…it went as follows:

    Vendor: “ID please”

    70 Year Old Man: “Hahahahahah”

    Vendor: “I’m Serious…”

70 Year Old Man: <—- Shocked beyond belief… “Honey…do we even have our Id’s?”

Me: <—Internally laughing my ass off…

So yeah they finally gave them the beers, crazy right?

    Ok so onto the game….

I couldn’t have asked for better seats, a better opponent, or a better experience in general…it was truly that game that featured everything a fan could want…

  • LA Dodgers – Manny Ramirez – 50 Game Suspension….Performance Enhancing Idiot…
By Jeffrey Gross on May 7, 2009 | No Comments Comments

So is this Manny Being Manny? Manny Ramirez is yet another PED user in the long line of “greats” to be caught up in this on going and depressing scandal…It’s not the news of it happening now that angers me, its knowing that this is definitely not the first time he has used these substances….much like the others being targetted, it is quite clear that this is more than likely not the first time they used PED’s…unless by some strange impulse they opted to try it at this stage of the game…even after all of the accusations taking place around baseball…

So the Dodgers will certainly have to step it up in his absence as well, he is not at all an easy bat to replace in the lineup. Who’s next? I hope against all hope each day that the name Albert Pujols is never, ever mentioned in these talks…that would be a tough pill to swallow…pun intended..

Well, let Manny be Manny off the field for a few months.

  • 10-12…Big Win Over Phillies At The Bank…
    By Jeffrey Gross on May 1, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Talk about a much needed win….that’s exactly what the Mets got today against the Phillies. Playing on the road facing Chan Ho Park…Big Pelf at the helm…talk about a must win….

So let’s rewind…in the last few days we have seen a few major bullpen meltdowns…this is totally 100%, completely nothing like the Mets…imagine that…a bullpen blowing the game..well it happened…twice. The Mets came into this game needing a big stop and they got it.

Pelfrey performed well, Murphy came up big, and even David Wright got in on the action. K-Rod took care of business..excellent.

Tomorrow the Mets will face someone who they should (but often dont) slap around…Jamie Moyer. We have our own excitement to add though, Olly Perez…which Olly will we see tomorrow? …  Only Time Will Tell…

    Let’s G Mets!

  • Dreadful Mets Team Performance – Cardinals Sweep
    By Jeffrey Gross on April 24, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

As you all may have noticed I haven’t been around much the last few days, but I’m back!  I had some administrative and technical site issues to handle and to add to that the Mets as a whole decided to suck during these days.

So here we sit…6-9…I know…it’s still early…but when a team only has 1 reliable pitcher, and clutch hitting that is simply non existent, it worries you at any point of the season. The Mets have their fair share of problems…Perez, Maine, and Hernandez can’t seem to get it right at the moment, and Pelfrey is also a big tall question mark. Santana is the rock that the Mets need and we will see him prove once again tomorrow night that he is the best pitcher in baseball.

The Mets need a stop and Johan is the man to do it… 7-9 after tomorrow!

  • New York Mets – .500 – 12 Games In
By Jeffrey Gross on April 20, 2009 | No Comments Comments

So here we sit, a couple of weeks into the season, and the New York Mets are sitting at .500. At 6-6 the Mets have shown many of their strengths and of course some weaknesses as well. Let’s face it, besides Johan Santana, there is not much certainty as to what you will get from the other 4 Starters.

Maine, Perez, Pelfrey, Hernandez, and now Figueroa are all a bit unpredictable to say the very least

At the plate I see some serious potential for this team. Castillio, Delgado, Church, and of course the usual threats (Beltran ,Wright, Reyes) will, in my opinion, continue to produce. The clutch hitting will come, and I get a feeling that when everything starts to click there will be a vast improvement in this part of their game.

Tomorrow the Mets take on the Saint Louis Cardinals. They certainly will have their work cut out for them as the Cardinals will most certainly bring their offense against Mr. Perez.

    Let’s Go Mets!

  • Castillo Walkoff Gives Mets The Win In The 9′th!
    By Jeffrey Gross on April 17, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Wow….on a night where we saw Gary Sheffield’s 500′th Home Run (Congrats Mr. Sheffield!) we also saw some more exciting fireworks from the bat of…..Luis Castillo.

Bottom of the 9′th….two outs, Runners on Second and Third…and Boom, Luis comes through with slap infield single to the left side of the infield. It was a glorious win for the Mets…they had to have this win after coming from behind (again) after giving up a 3-0 lead gotten in the first inning.

To make a long story short, in the 9′th, we saw (another) clutch hit from Carlos Delgado to lead of the all important bottom half of this inning. Bobby Parnell also looked excellent (again), Putz looked strong, and David Wright, Jose Reyes, and Luis Castillo all did well at the plate (along with Delgado of course).

So the Mets are 5-5 now…but what is more than the record is the ever growing confidence in Castillo, and the BUllpen as a whole. Confidence will lead to wins, and this is something the Mets are gaining each day. The only true issue so far….starting pitching. My gut feeling tells me that this will get better over the next month.

    Let’s Go Mets!

  • A Tale Of Two Olly’s – Mets Get First Win At Citi Field!
    By Jeffrey Gross on April 16, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

What a difference a few days can make. Oliver Perez brought the A-Game the Mets needed today in a sparkling 1 Run performance. Even more than his strong pitching performance, were the invigorating at bats he had tonight. How entertaining was that?! This guy was really working the count and taking some monster hacks up there. OK, so he missed…but still awesome enthusiasm, and you just have to love the bat smashing after the strikeouts haha.

Besides that, we saw some good signs in other aspects of the team as well. Parnell looked good, Putz was strong…and Delgado is just getting started. Delgado will be getting very familiar with the Pepsi porch in right field this season.

I also had the displeasure of watching the sloppiest overall inning of baseball I have seen this season so far. The Padres absolutely amazed me in that 8th inning, more mental errors were made than Mets runs scored in the inning. Totally, incredibly sloppy…but hey I wont complain :-) It worked out for the Mets for sure.

Oh, Ryan Church struck out for the first time this season tonight…It boggles my mind that he sat tonight…incredibly, insanely ridiculous. Ugh….

Let’s hope we see this Olly more often. If we do…that 30 Million + investment won’t look so silly. Let’s Go Mets!

  • New Stadium – Fresh Start – Welcome To Citi Field!
By Jeffrey Gross on April 13, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Before I get into today’s game I want to make mention of a few things:

I didn’t get to post about Yesterdays game against the Florida Marlins, but I woule like to write a quick blurb about it now.  Johan looked awesome, 13 K’s is nothing to sneeze at. Of course he did not get the win…that went to Johnson, Florida’s SP. Johnson got better as the game progressed, and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with this guy. It was an incredible gamer to watch, and I feel it was the best I have watched this season. (Even though it resulted in a Mets loss) Oh yeah, Congratulations to Johan Santana…who’s wife gave birth to a baby boy today…only 18 years and we might see another Johan! :-)

Ok so now for today. Citi Field is in business! It was a true pleasure to see The Franchise and Mr. Mike Piazza on the field once again for the opening ceremonies. Always cool to see those two on the same field. So new stadium, fresh start, let’s give the ball to Mike Pelfrey. What a wonderful first inning it was, the first Padres batter launched a home run over the right field fence to christen the new field. Pelfrey then settled down and escaped the first inning.

Pelfrey have up 4 more runs over the next few innings, and wasn’t all that sharp tonight. His pitches were up in the zone, and I must admit, I am hoping to see more from him this weekend.

Offensively, David Wright looked great, Beltran gave one a ride (but not quite enough), Castillo came through in an important spot. Feliciano balked home the go ahead (at the time) and eventual winning run. Not exactly the best way to start, but let’s see what happens!

    Until tomorrow…Happy blogging!
